Thorpe

Thorpe

Thorpe occupies a lovely position on the Staffordshire side of the Dove, a short distance from the spot where the Dove joins the equally lovely Manifold, which spends some of its journey underground. Thorpe Church is boldly Norman, as is its font - sadly weathered from the years when it was used as a cattle trough! Deep scratches on the front walls of the church porch are souvenirs of a time when all good men and true were obliged to share in communal archery practice. And this is where they sharpened their arrows!
