Afternoon Tea Raises £3,340.43 for Breast Cancer Now

After a successful afternoon tea and raising £2,170 in 2023 for Breast Cancer Now, a group of Bakewell residents and friends decided to do it all again in 2024.

Over the August Bank Holiday weekend, Bakewell residents, Vicky Hewitt-Smith and Irene Howsley hosted an Afternoon Tea in Vicky’s front garden.

Inspired by a charity close to everyone’s heart, an army of friends, neighbours, local businesses and residents came together with heartwarming community spirit to deliver what was a lovely and uplifting afternoon tea across two days. The idea and organisation are one thing but the willingness of people to get involved and make it happen is another and was nothing less than amazing!

Residents and visitors alike were able to come together for a common cause and enjoy tea with delicious home baked scones or cake, served with a smile. Over £3000 of prizes were generously donated by local businesses and the fun of winning prizes on the very full Tombola table was made possible by donations received from far and wide. Surprise guest and former world boxing champion Kell Brook also came along to show his support in the fight against breast cancer.

The outcome of everyone’s efforts is an astonishing £3,340.43 was raised to support life saving breast cancer research and life-changing care for people affected by breast cancer.

To everyone involved….well done and a massive thank you!
