The sixteenth annual Festival of Christmas Trees will take place at All Saints’ Parish Church, Bakewell between 13 and 22 December 2024. The church will be full of Christmas trees, mainly “real”, some artificial or created, but all lovingly and creatively decorated in such a way as to celebrate different aspects of our Bakewell community. Local businesses, charities, schools, churches, communities and organisations will be represented.
The festival will be opened during a short service at 7pm on Thursday, 12 December. This service will be followed by wine and nibbles. The church will then be open daily from 9.30am to 4pm (except Thursday, when mulled wine and mince pies will be available from 5-6.30pm). Sunday opening times will be 12noon to 4pm. The festival will close with a community carol service at 6pm on Sunday, 22 December.
Delicious home made refreshments will be served from 10am to 3.30pm each day (Sunday 12.30-3.30).
Entry to the festival is free, with any donations going towards the regular cost of maintaining the church.
At 7.30pm on Saturday, 14 December Bakewell Choral will perform their annual carol service. Tickets are £12, students and accompanied children free, available online from www.bakewellchoral.co.uk, from the Little Vagabond Bookshop (formerly Maxwells), from members of the choir or on the door.
The tree festival is a joyous beginning to Christmas. It has become a Bakewell tradition and is not to be missed. And this year’s festival will be the last one for Canon Tony, unless he can be persuaded to return as a visitor!
