Matlock Storytelling CaféGone Cuckoo Friday 3rd May

Matlock Storytelling Café plays host to Malcolm and Joshua Green telling their tale Gone Cuckoo at the Imperial Rooms, Imperial Road, Matlock, DE4 3NL.

Spring is here, the trees are flushed with green, flowers play host to buzzing bees and birds thoughts turn to nesting. But of all the sights and sounds of nature that we associate with the changing of the seasons, the call of the cuckoo stands out from the crowd. For millennia, the cuckoo's call has inspired songs, stories and poems. Does he bring the Spring? Tell our fortunes? Was he the shapeshifter that became a hawk?

At our May cafe we bring you Gone Cuckoo where myth and science meet in a compelling tale of this iconic bird’s journey. This is told through story and song by son and father Joshua and Malcolm Green.

‘Gone Cuckoo mixes Josh's enchanting voice, hilarious acting and wonderfully improvised music making with Malcolm spellbinding gift for telling tales. Their shared story blends wonder and humour and joy with a profoundly serious message about the loss of British wildlife. Above all Gone Cuckoo is a love song to the most celebrated bird of the northern summer.’ Mark Cocker (author of Crow Country)
