28 June to 4 July 2026 Sunday 28 June 2.30 Crowning of the Wakes Carnival Queen at Winster Market House, followed by Parade to Church. 3pm Wakes service followed by teas and a short concert in the Burton Institute by Ashbourne Town Band. 6pm Orienteering event starting at the Miners’ Standard pub.

 

Monday 29 June 4-6pm Wakes and Carnival Project ‘at home’ in the Burton Institute (deals with conserving the records). 7pm The ‘East Beast’ cycle timed hill climb on East Bank. Registration at 6.30 in Bowling Green car park. Followed by Ball Run competition

 

Tuesday 30 June 2pm Cream Tea and Entertainment by children of Winster School. 5.30 Children’s Sports on the playing field. 6-8pm Open Art Exhibition in the church by local artists with wine and jazz. 6.30 Jonathan Harper Memorial Football Match on the playing field. 8.15 Carnival Quiz at the Bowling Green pub.

Friday 3 July 5pm Duck Hunt starting at the Bowling Green. 8pm Barn Dance with ‘Speed the Plough’ ceilidh band, barbecue and bar.

 

Saturday 4 July Carnival Day on Main Street 1.30 Fancy dress competition at Leacroft, then parade led by Ashbourne Town Band with floats and morris dancing. Craft and produce stalls, children’s games, face painting, stocks, raffle, beer at the Market House, teas and cakes at the café, tug-o-war, morris dancing, children’s show and a concert by the Ashbourne Town Band. 6.30 Fun on the playing fields with children’s football, inflatables, bouncy castle, sumo suits, Jenga, Connect 4 and Bungee Run. 7-11 ‘The Good Night Club’, a 3-piece band who play pop, rock, soul, disco and hits from the 60s to the present. HOPE WAKES AND WELL DRESSING

Saturday 27th June-Sunday 5th July 4 dressed wells and decorated scarecrows, shops, pubs and houses around Hope throughout the week. Theme is ‘By the Seaside’. Details in programme on sale in Hope Spar.

 

Saturday 27th June Carnival Day. Judging of scarecrows from 9am. Hope photo-quiz sheets available from 11am. Hope Valley College, morning of Music and Mayhem. Sports field from 1pm crowning the Wakes Royalty, stalls, entertainment, hot food and a bar available throughout the day, Carnival Parade leaving field 2pm. Entertainment goes on into the evening with audio-visual presentation in St Peter’s Church in the evening.

 

Sunday 28th June Wakes Service in the morning following car boot, attended by the 2026 Hope Wakes Royalty. In the evening Blessing the Wells procession, led by Castleton Silver Band. Throughout the week, events including quizzes, kids fun and games, car treasure hunt, fell race, services, concerts, celebrations, and displays from Hope Historical Society and Hope Valley Photographic Society in St. Peter’s Church. Saturday 4th July Bell ringers coffee morning and demonstration in the church. Have a go at ringing the bells, supervised by bellringing teachers. In the evening there is a choice of HADIT’s Murder Mystery evening with supper in Loxley Hall at 7.30pm or a disco at 8pm in The Old Hall. Sunday 5th July Car boot sale in the morning, duck race on River Noe in the afternoon. All proceeds from the week towards project to renew children’s playground on Hope Sports Field.
