Two Dales
But for a sensitive Victorian rector, Two Dales would still be known as Toad Hole. Dropped h’s are an endearing Peakland habit, so the locals quickly adapted to the change of name. Two Dales has an old mill, now producing animal feeds but which has turned out everything from lace to rabbit skin gloves. It used to draw its power from three enormous dams hidden in Ladygrove Woods, a magical place with several miles of delightful walks. A steep hill climbs from Two Dales towards the moors, passing by the entrance to Sydnope Hall, a private property and one time home of Sir Francis Darwin, grandfather to the famous Charles.
