MATLOCK TREFOIL GUILD

Each January we hold our Annual Meeting to look back over the past year, review the accounts, elect the organising team and plan for the year ahead.

In her report the Chair, Ann Hall, recapped on the many activities and events the group had enjoyed during 2022, and linked these to the four key message of the Trefoil Guild:- Find Friendship, Get Active, Get Involved and Give Support.

Ann thanked the secretary and treasurer for their contributions to the smooth running of the group, and the members for their friendship and support. The organising team re-elected for the coming year was Chair- Ann Hall, Secretary – Margaret Screen, Treasurer – Monica Render

At this year’s meeting we were joined by our County Trefoil Chair, Alison Plunkett and Paul Barlow, from the Derby Mountain Rescue Team.

Following the business of the meeting we were enthralled by Paul’s illustrated talk about the work of the team in and around the Peak District. The title ‘Mountain Rescue’ belies the extent of the team’s breadth of work and expertise. They are a voluntary emergency service who attend callouts in response to requests from Derbyshire Police, East Midlands Ambulance Service, and West Midlands Ambulance Service. Derby Mountain Rescue Team is on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and consists entirely of highly skilled unpaid volunteers.

Their main function is the search and rescue of injured or missing people, principally in upland or mountainous areas, but they can be called on whenever their specialist skills may be of use, such as searching for vulnerable persons in rural areas.

The team are trained for many different types of incident including crag rescue and rope access, missing person search, flood and swiftwater water rescue, and pre-hospital emergency medicine.

Derby Mountain Rescue was the chosen charity for the Matlock guild’s fundraising over the past year and we were delighted to be able to hand over a cheque for £1350 that was raised by members.
