Mayor’s Charities 2022/23

During his term, Former Mayor Paul Cruise, had two focus areas for fundraising - Derby Mountain Rescue and Matlock Young People.

A total of £4590 pounds was raised with the monies being split equally between Derby Mountain Rescue and Matlock Young residents (11-18yrs).

During the year a number of fund raising activities were held including the Christmas lights switch-on event, a charity dance and raffle and a charity football match at Matlock Town Football club.

Derby Mountain Rescue are our local Mountain Rescue team staffed by volunteers operating without direct funding. Derby Mountain Rescue are currently raising funds for a new base and the funds will be used to support that development.

The funds raised for our young residents will be channeled through Highfields Parent Teacher Association and the Friends of Hurst farm. Specific projects and activities will be delivered to promote well-being and confidence building.

Former Mayor Paul Cruise said, “I am really pleased with the result. Thank you to everyone who supported the events and special thanks goes to Matlock Town Council staff for their support.”

Chair of Friends of Hurst Farm Anna Casey Said, “This will benefit young people on Hurst Farm estate in Matlock to promote health & wellbeing within our local community that has a rate of social deprivation.”

Pat Parsons, Chair of DMRT said, “We were delighted to have been chosen for the Mayor’s charity and this will help hugely with our fundraising campaign for our new base. We have also really enjoyed our special relationship with Matlock and look forward to this continuing.”

Chair of Highfields PTFA, Liz Cruise said, “Highfields PTFA were delighted to be nominated by the mayor and enjoyed the opportunity to collaborate with other charities at the various events throughout the year. Students at Highfields School will benefit from the money raised which will be used to fund resources for extra clubs and lunchtime activities as well as specific support for students experiencing challenging circumstances.”
