Wirksworth welcomes the return of its book festival on Saturday 20th April. The town turns over its streets, market and venues to celebrate the joy of reading for a day and more.
The festival features national and local authors talking about their work, including one who will give an aerial performance while talking about her memoir. Genres include historical fiction, poetry, crime, manga comics and the outdoors. There will also be writing workshops, drop-in craft activities and the chance to have your fortune told by I Ching. Kirk Ireton Light Programme will perform one of their atmospheric readings of The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde in the historic Moot Hall.
There will be large book fair and vintage market. If you are interested in having a stall or leading a craft activity please contact Sally-Anne Swindell on wirksworthbookfest@ gmail.com.
The famous book quiz is also back, after a break, on its Sunday evening slot. Sure to test your knowledge on all types of books and authors, this fun challenge is raising funds for Aquabox.
Wirkswortth Book Festival is a not-for-profit event organised by Wirksworth Traders Community Events CIC and other members of the community. Book Festival co-organiser Bill Bevan said “The book festival has been established as one of Wirksworth’s major annual events since 2016. We are delighted to run it again this year and see the level of interest from authors, illustrators and local businesses. Reading brings people together and that’s what we aim to do on the 20th April.”
