On Monday 26th May 2025, friends Arthur and Woody, both Year 6 pupils at Curbar Primary School completed a challenge to drive their little remote-control cars 10 miles to raise money for Ashgate Hospice.
The idea for the challenge came from Arthur who was inspired by the entertaining motoring misadventures of the BBC’s Top-Gear. Arthur’s idea was to attempt a similar motoring challenge with toy remote control cars, driving them 10 miles in one day around the footpaths of Chesterfield, starting and finishing at Ashgate Hospice. With the aim of raising £1,000 in acknowledgement of the amazing care that they gave to his Grandad.
The walk took nearly nine hours with maintenance and battery changing stops, along the way the pair were met by supporters in Chesterfield Queens Park to cheer them on as they passed.
At the finish line the boys were met by their families and representatives of Ashgate Hospice. It was a fun and challenging adventure.
Arthur and Woody worked hard to raise awareness of their challenge and gain sponsorship, and as a result they were successful in exceeding their target, raising £1085.
The boys want to thank everyone who gave so generously in sponsorship. They are already thinking about their next fundraising challenge!
