BAKEWELL’S NEW FLAG POLE

Bakewell and District Royal British Legion have recently arranged to have the flag pole reinstated in Bakewell Churchyard.

The old flag pole was removed several years ago, one of the reasons being the noise from the lanyard in windy conditions.

The new pole has an internal lanyard so there is not this problem.

After a suggestion to replace the pole, enquiries were made with the church, and other bodies who gave their permissions. Funding was explored and the then Branch Chairman, Andy Howard, approached the Red Socks organisation. They provide security at Chatsworth Country Fair, and raise money for good causes. Andy is a member of the Red Socks and was successful in obtaining the full amount to pay for the flag pole and its installation.

The flagpole was installed and has been in use since, and in time for the towns VE Day celebrations on the 8th of May.
