CROMFORD'S ANNUAL DUCK RACE MAKES A SPLASH FOR LOCAL CAUSES

ree

On Sunday, 23 June, the annual duck race took place in the River Derwent as part of the Celebrating Cromford Village Festival. At around noon, nearly 200 ducks were released into the river behind Cromford Mills.

With the river at its lowest level in over 20 years, the ducks enjoyed a leisurely swim down the river until they reached the finish line at Cromford Bridge. Members of the Cromford FlyFishers Club, including father and son duo Steve and Chris Hannath, along with volunteers from Celebrating Cromford, were on hand to net the ducks, ensuring that any escapees were captured.

The first five ducks to cross the finish line received prizes donated by local businesses, including the top prize of Tea for Two at Oakhill Hotel.

The event also raised funds for local good causes.

Jonathan Park, a committee member of the Cromford FlyFishers Club, stated, “The local fishing club are always happy to support both Celebrating Cromford and their causes. We’re glad to report every single duck was netted!”
