An exciting evening of Elephant Racing took place recently in the Sports Pavilion at Elton village, near Matlock. A packed venue saw our jockeys pull, rather than push, their elephants down the t
rack to cross the finish line. They were racing for a good cause, to raise funds for Elton C of E Primary School and also the Motor Neurone Disease Association.
There was a pause in the proceedings for everyone to enjoy a Pie and Pea Supper before the event closed with a raffle and a Winners Race.
The event was arranged by Elton Primary School who received fantastic support from local businesses, AB Electrical, Simon James Joinery and TDP Furniture alongside the surrounding community. The support from local people was praised by the school's Headteacher, Oona Gilbertson, who commented, "It's been a great way to raise funds for both the school and the charity. We really do appreciate the support from our community."
At the end of the evening £900 had been raised, £600 for school funds along with a donation of £300 to the Motor Neurone Disease Association (in memory of Mrs Ann Bell).
The elephants were extremely well cared for, they are currently resting up over winter and could well make another appearance in the spring.
