GREAT LONGSTONE CRICKET – GOING FROM STRENGTH TO STRENGTH

Cricket is thriving once again on the Recreation Ground in Great Longstone. Last season marked the successful return of regular fixtures, with a lively mix of short and longer format friendly matches that welcomed players of all ages, abilities and experience. As spring turns to summer, that buzz is building again, with Great Longstone Cricket Club (GLCC) preparing for another full and exciting season.

The club continues to invest in a strong and sustainable future for cricket in the local area. Last year saw the launch of our hugely successful Dynamos and All Stars programmes for children aged 5-8 and 8-11. Thirty young players took part — many picking up a bat for the very first time. The sessions are fast paced, fun and packed with games that build confidence and core cricketing skills.

We are also thrilled to be launching a brand new Women and Girls Section this season. With a friendly mix of training sessions and introductory soft ball cricket matches, it’s the perfect way to try the sport — no experience required.

For those who know our ground, it remains one of the most picturesque cricket settings in the Peak District. With the bar open and the backdrop of Longstone Edge, it’s a wonderful place to spend a summer afternoon or evening — whether you’re playing or simply enjoying the atmosphere.

This summer, Buxton CC Fifths will again be playing league cricket on Saturday afternoons from 1pm, alongside regular fixtures from the Sheffield University Staff XI on alternate weekends. With GLCC’s own friendlies added to the calendar [details below], there will be no shortage of cricket to enjoy.
