MATLOCK MUSIC PRESENTS LIVE MUSIC IN THE DALES ~ PRINCE BISHOPS BRASS

Matlock Music Society continues its exciting 2024/25 season on Friday 31st January with a concert to be given by Prince Bishops Brass. The ensemble was formed ten years ago by a group of brass-playing friends. During the countless bars rest they encountered while playing for local orchestras and bands, they decided to get together as a brass quintet to eliminate the need to count quite as much! They have since established themselves as the North East’s premier brass ensemble.

The ensemble is a quintet comprising Chris Lewis (trumpet), Anthony Thompson (trumpet), Chris Senior (French horn), Stuart Gray (trombone), and Stephen Boyd (tuba). They are all very experienced musicians who bring a great sense of enjoyment to their performances, which span a wide range of genres from Baroque and Renaissance to upbeat jazz and swing.

Their programme is called “Bach to Boogie” and will include a wide range of works by Dukas, Jeremiah Clarke, Bach, Gabrieli, Mozart, Horovitz, Fauré and Bernstein.

Do come and join us for what promises to be an exciting evening of live, first-class chamber music.

Future events include the annual concert, given by outstanding young musicians of the Sheffield Music Academy, on 28th February. Full details of the 2024/25 season are given on the society’s website.

The concert is on Friday 31st January at the Wheeldon Hall, Highfields School, Lumsdale, off the Chesterfield Road, Matlock, DE4 5NA starting at 7.30pm. Tickets at £15 will be available at the door. Under 18s are free and students and registered job-seekers pay half-price. All seats are unreserved. There is ample parking at the school. Further information is available on our website www.matlockmusic.org.uk or by phoning George Wolfe, Tel 01433 631308.
