Darley Dale Town Council is thrilled to announce the completion of the installation of the new play equipment in The Whitworth Park in Darley Dale, which provides an enhanced and inclusive play experience for local children and visitors to the area.
The new multi-play unit offers various climbing and sliding activities for children of different ages and abilities to enjoy. The lower-level features can be enjoyed by infant children whilst the monkey bars, climbing wall and higher slide are challenging for junior children. There is an element of imaginative play with this unit too, due to the different deck heights and look out towers.
The new equipment has already generated significant excitement and positive feedback from local families. They have been without such amenities since the old unit was decommissioned in the summer of 2024.
Derbyshire Dales District Council had recreational funds set aside from when the new housing development at Whitworth Dale was built and decided to allocate some of this money towards new play equipment in the park.
To purchase this substantial piece of equipment, additional funding was required. Darley Dale Town Council successfully secured funding from Co-op Darley Dale (£250), Derbyshire Dales Rotary (£600), Ernest Bailey Fund (£1,000), Platform Housing Group (£15,000) and The National Lottery Community Fund (£15,000).
Chris Pinson-Bradley, Community Engagement Manager at Platform Housing Group said: “We are delighted to have helped fund this much needed play equipment in the surroundings of Whitworth Park. Outdoor areas are so important for our communities; this play equipment will benefit many in the local community.”
