Quay of Sea is a Winster Wakes concert that reflects Lester Simpson’s love of the sea and of sailing anything from a dinghy to a full-rigged ship. It draws on Lester’s own songs as well as the great nautical tradition.
The material represents a broad spectrum from the tragic to the comic, delivered in songs, stories and tunes. Lester, on melodeon, ukulele and vocals, is ably assisted by Nigel Corbett on guitar, ukulele and fiddle.
There will be a chance for the audience to join in with some well-known songs, as well as enjoying a good laugh and maybe the odd tear or two. So “stand by your bow stoppers, let go your shank painters, haul up your clew garnets, let tacks and sheets fly” – and get ready to sing.
Wednesday 2nd July at Burton Institute, Winster DE4 2DQ at 7.30p. Licensed bar, cash and card payments acceptable. Tickets £10 from Winster Post Office or Mike Hatfield (01629 650468) or on the door.
