The 95th running of the iconic Monsal Head Hill Climb took place on Sunday, 5th October, with 214 riders tackling the famous 675-yard ascent at one-minute intervals. Despite breezy conditions lingering after Storm Amy, riders produced a series of blistering performances and record-breaking runs.
Finley Hudson (Harrogate Nova Race Team) set a new junior record, while Ezra Batema (Clifton CC York) smashed the youth open record by an incredible 7.1 seconds — both records having stood for nine years. Charlie Openshaw (Team Lifting Gear Products) equalled his own veteran 50+ record with a time of 1:34.8, and Gordon Simpson (Cowley Road Condors CC) obliterated the Brompton record, taking an astonishing 44.9 seconds off the previous best.
Competitors ranged in age from eight to seventy-five, all vying for a share of the £2,250 prize pot. Defending champions Andy Nichols (Team Lifting Gear Products) and Rachel Galler (FTP – Fulfil The Potential Race Team) both retained their titles with outstanding rides to top the senior podiums.
