District Governor Philip Wilbourn joined us for the club’s 48th Birthday Charter lunchtime barbeque at the Medway Centre, Bakewell on 14th May – along with some 25 guests enjoyed a very happy and convivial occasion. The main course was a hog roast provided by Ginger Butchers.
Dr Mike Hardman, Assistant District Governor (ADG), joined the club for its Annual Assembly at lunchtime on 21st May in the King’s Room, Rutland Arms Hotel, Bakewell along with 14 of our members. Roy Pickles BEM asked to introduce Mike as he had known Mike’s wife for some 45 years through his work in social care in local government and with support for dementia through the Buxton Hall Bank Trust. Bakewell President elect, John Hopkins introduced the incoming team for his year which starts on 1st July. Fund raising will continue through the planned programme of events and the support of local schools, and charities through our Community Chest grant scheme, and the highly successful bi-monthly Bakewell Repair Café.
We are particularly looking to increase the active membership both with individuals and local companies – and Mike was able to give some useful pointers that he had observed being used in other clubs.
