TREFOIL GUILD MATLOCK

ree

Matlock Trefoil members have been making the most of the summer weather with plenty of outdoor time. Following the successful trip to ‘The Secret Diner’, the Sudbury prison restaurant in June, July saw an outing to Welbeck Estate. Welbeck is a modern working estate, nestled within Sherwood Forest.

At its heart is Welbeck Abbey, founded as a monastery in 1153. After the Dissolution, the Abbey was bought by Bess of Hardwick's youngest son, Sir Charles Cavendish. It descended through the family and became the country seat to a succession of Dukes of Portland. After exploring the estate, the group enjoyed a picnic in the beautiful grounds. A great day out.

August saw us once again at Pax Hoh, Girlguiding Derbyshire’s camp site. We welcomed invited guests from Amber, and Heanor & Ripley guilds and after a BBQ lunch there was a selection of activities to have a go at, including chime bars and a chance to try Axe throwing – under expert tuition – plus several less challenging choices. There was also plenty of time to sit and chat with, of course, tea and cake!

As autumn approaches we will be back indoors for our monthly meetings. We meet on the third Thursday evening of each month in Darley Dale and have an interesting variety of speakers and meetings planned. Do come and join us – new members are always welcome, to find out more about the Trefoil Guild visit www.trefoilguild.co.uk or call Ann on 07790 123429.
