It seems members of Matlock trefoil are improving their throwing skills!
Last month they were throwing axes and this month lifelines. The September meeting was a visit to the newly built Matlock Fire Station , where after a most interesting and informative talk about fire safety in the home, they were given a conducted tour of the station and the fire engines, or appliances as they should be called.
Boasting a double bay appliance and vehicle garage, the new station is equipped with accommodation for fire service personnel and a new smoke training facility built to replicate a typical three-bedroom house combined with a commercial stairwell, basement, loft and confined space. And it has the traditional fireman’s pole which, although not often used, was demonstrated by one of the firefighters on duty.
It was training night for the firefighters on duty and after watching the experts at work members had an opportunity to have a go at throwing a lifeline that could be used in water rescues.
A really good evening and thanks go to the staff for making us so welcome and for the chance to see and learn so much about their work. And of course the evening ended with coffee and cake.
We were invited to a party by a neighbouring Trefoil group in Belper who are celebrating their 20th Anniversary. A group of our members went along and had very enjoyable afternoon sharing memories, quizzes, games and delicious food. Thank you Amber guild for the invitation.
We meet on the third Thursday evening of each month in Darley Dale and have an interesting variety of speakers and meetings planned. Do come and join us - new members are always welcome, to find out more about the Trefoil Guild visit www.trefoilguild.co. uk or call Ann on 07790 123429.
