VINTAGE SPORTS CAR CLUB ANNUAL HILL TRIAL SATURDAY 1ST MARCH

Love old cars? Then make a note of Saturday 1st March in your diary. That’s when the Vintage Sports Car Club is staging its annual Derbyshire hill trial for vintage (pre-1930) cars. Starting and finishing at Ashover, it’s one of seven national trials held annually by the Club. The trial has been going for more than 50 years and over 100 vintage cars compete drawn from across the UK. Hill trialling has been going since the 1930s and was used by motor manufacturers to demonstrate the reliability and ruggedness of their vehicles. Cars were a bit more of a novelty back then. And thousands of spectators would turn out to watch the different marques competing on the steep, tricky trial hills typically set in forest and other challenging terrain. Today the hills are spread across the northern part of the County on private land. But you can see them in action in Chatsworth and Walton; or just look out for them motoring through Matlock or Ashover looking rather muddy.
