Prize winning veg, artful flower arrangements and mouthwatering cakes will be the order of the day at Youlgrave Show on Saturday 13th September 2025.
Following the successful re-launch of the village’s long standing and popular horticultural show last year, this year’s event promises to be a ‘makes and bakes’ spectacular. With the early and prolonged drought this spring and summer the vegetable classes may show some gaps or have some unusual entries, but with Youlgrave’s industrious home bakers and brewers and the children’s entries there will be a lot to see in the village hall.
A proportion of the proceeds from last year’s show are being donated to allow pupils at Youlgrave All Saints School to enjoy a trip with a horticultural setting, so that the children can learn more about where their food comes from and how to plant and propagate fruit and vegetables.
Andrew McCloy, Vice Chair of Youlgrave Parish Council, said, “The allotments in Youlgrave have always been an important part of village life and it’s great to see young people getting more involved. Helping the school engage children with learning about growing food and caring for their environment is a great use of funds.”
The doors will be open to the public at 12 noon when you will be able to admire months of growing and handicraft across 80 different classes. As well as the usual fruit and veg, cut flowers, baking and preserves, there are classes covering art and photography, an unusually shaped vegetable, children’s work and even a prize for the best home-made compost.
Entries to be made Friday evening (12th Sept) 6-8pm or Saturday morning (13th Sept) 8-10am, entry cards in village shops and schedule online. If you want to enter items for the show, or check the different classes, the full Show Schedule and entry cards are available from Youlgrave’s shops, or view the full schedule online at www.youlgrave.org.uk/youlgrave-show
The following day, Sunday 14th September is the harvest festival service at Youlgrave All Saints Church, with a special afternoon of traditional games and refreshments – including a specially brewed traditional church ale! See local noticeboards or visit www.youlgrave.org.uk for more details.
