More than five hundred thousand people in the UK have Alzhiemer’s disease. It is the biggest killer in the country. Matlock ukulele group, Strummers (MUGS) have chosen Alzheimer’s Research for their chosen charity fundraising. Earlier this year the sister of one of the group’s musicians was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. A family tragedy, which made the band want to find something they could do to help her and possibly other people with this terrible incurable disease. Mugs


WORLD WAR II DAY AT ROWSLEY PRIMARY SCHOOL
Children at Rowsley CE Primary School brought their World War II topic alive last month, as they entered school on 24th October 1942 for a World War II day. Year 5 and 6 dressed in 1940s clothes, made a ration cake, and took cover during air raid sirens. Class teacher Mrs Hewitt taught wartime lessons throughout the day, Chair of Governors, Mr Thornhill read Biggles to the class and Rowsley Craft Club visited school for a ‘make do and mend’ session.

The next Rotary Club of Bakewell Repair Café is being held at the Bakewell Methodist Church Hall on Saturday 29th November from 10am to 12.30pm (last jobs taken 12 noon). Our usual team of repairers will be on hand to try and save your items from the scrap heap using their brilliant repair skills. WREATH MAKING WORKSHOPS RAISING FUNDS FOR LOCAL HOSPICE CARE
Residents in the Hope Valley and Derbyshire Dales are invited to get into the festive spirit while supporting families affected by life-limiting illness this Christmas. A group of enthusiastic pupils, parents and teachers from Bakewell Methodist Academy, joined the parkrun community at Monsal Trail on Saturday 18th October. RECORDS FALL AT THE 95TH MONSAL HEAD HILL CLIMB
Andy Nichols Monsal Hill Climb Winner The 95th running of the iconic Monsal Head Hill Climb took place on Sunday, 5th October, with 214 riders tackling the famous 675-yard ascent at one-minute intervals. The Windross Shield awarded to Gemma Cox for first lady over the line There was a good turn out for Chelmorton Chase running race four miles north of Bakewell this year, the local winner was Harry Mosley Gemma Cox was awarded the Windross Shield for first lady home and first male runner, holding front place from the starts was Thomas Oliver in 31 minutes 34 seconds. BAKEWELL TOWN & COMMUNITY TRUST MISSING MURAL DISCOVERED
Stephen Coates, President of Bakewell & District Historical Society and Bakewell Old House Museum giving a detailed presentation of John Blake and his work On Thursday 18th September at Bakewell Town Hall, dignitaries and guests learnt about the ‘Mystery of the Missing Mural’.
