For classical music lovers in the Bakewell area, the Town Hall Chamber Series for 2026 offers a wonderful opportunity to hear some outstanding concerts performed by members of the Hallé, Manchester Camerata, and top free-lancers working all around the UK.

Folk and Fantasy is the second concert of the series.

Hallé principal oboist, Stéphane Rancourt will perform alongside colleagues, Marie Schreer (violin), Chris Emerson (viola) and Dale Culliford (cello), all former and current members of the Hallé.

The concert will feature music for oboe and string trio which includes a rarely performed work by Czech composer Jiří Družecký who was a younger contemporary of Mozart. Alongside this will be two English works – a short and rarely heard piece in two movements by Elgar, and a haunting and atmospheric Fantasy Quartet by the Anglo-Irish composer Ernest Moeran, which draws on the folk melodies of Norfolk where he grew up. To explore the Folk and Fantasy theme there will also be a short lively dance for string trio by the Czech composer, Hans Krása, a duo for viola and cello by the English composer Rebecca Clarke and a piece for solo violin by the New Zealand composer Salina Fisher.

All the musicians performing have commented on how much they love playing in Bakewell. They enjoy the venue, the town and its surroundings, and the very welcoming audience.

Don’t miss this chance to hear high quality professional chamber music, on your doorstep.
