Hope Wakes And Well Dressing runs this year from Saturday 25thJune until Sunday 3rd July 2022 with our four dressed wells and decorated scarecrows, shops, pubs and houses all around Hope throughout the week and fun events every day. This year’s theme is “Myths, Legends and Fairy Tales” with all the details in the programme, on sale in Hope shops from 10th June.
The celebrations start on Saturday 25th June with the judging of the scarecrows and decorated premises in the morning. During the afternoon, Hope Valley College are organising a Music and Mayhem event, with concerts in the school and racing of mythical beasts on the field. At 7pm, Richard Haslam, the highly accomplished Manchester based guitarist, is giving a recital of a wide range of music for the guitar in St Peter’s Church.
On Sunday 26th there is a car boot sale on the sports field and the crowning the Hope Royalty in St Peter’s Church in the morning with a Teddy Bears Picnic in the afternoon and Blessing the Wells on Sunday evening. Throughout the week, we have events including a Fashion Show, a “Special Edition” Audio-visual show, Car Treasure Hunt, our Famous Fell Race, quizzes, and much more! Check the programme for full details and information.
The church will be open daily from Saturday 25th June until Saturday 3rd July from 12 noon until 4 pm except when there is a service taking place. There will be displays by the Historical Society – entitled “Hope Marketplace” – this sounds like a really interesting display so do come along and have a look at it – and displays from Hope Wildlife Group. Castleton and Hope Valley Photographic Society will once again be putting photos in the Chancel.
Our main Carnival Day will take place on Saturday 2nd July. From 1 pm there will be Fancy Dress judging on the sports field, gathering of visiting Royalty, stalls, entertainment, hot food and a bar available throughout the afternoon, with the Grand Procession leaving the field at 2pm. The procession through Hope will be led by the Hope Royalty and accompanied by floats with music provided by Castleton Silver Band and the Concorde AllStars. On return the Visiting Royalty will be crowned. The entertainment goes on throughout the afternoon followed by a Disco in the Marquee on the sports field from 7pm, dancing to music from DJ Paul Jenner from Peak Sound Radio with a licensed bar.
After a Communion Service in St Peter’s Church and a car boot sale at the college on the morning of Sunday 3rd July, there’s a Duck Race on the River Noe in the afternoon.
All proceeds from the week are going towards the project to continue the renovation of the children’s playground on Hope Sports Field. So, start making your scarecrows and get your fancy dress box out and come on and join in the fun!
