Hope Wakes And Well Dressing runs this year from Saturday, 27th June until Sunday 5th July with four dressed wells and decorated scarecrows, shops, pubs and houses all around Hope throughout the week.
This year’s theme is “By the Seaside”, with all the details in the programme, on sale in Hope Spar.
The main Carnival Day will take place on Saturday 27th June with the judging of dressed scarecrows and premises from 9am, and the Hope photo-quiz sheets available from 11am. Meanwhile, over at Hope Valley College, there is a morning of ‘Music and Mayhem’. On the sports field from 1pm there will be the crowning of the wakes royalty, stalls, entertainment, hot food and a bar available throughout the day, with the carnival parade leaving the field at 2pm. The entertainment goes on into the evening with an audio-visual presentation in St Peter’s Church in the evening from Keith Brown FRPS.
On Sunday, following the car boot sale, there is a wakes service in the morning, attended by the 2026 Hope wakes royalty, and the traditional blessing of the wells procession, led by Castleton Silver Band, in the evening.
Throughout the week there are events including, quizzes, kids fun and games, car treasure hunt, the famous fell race, and of course services, concerts, celebrations, and displays from Hope Historical Society and Hope Valley Photographic Society in St. Peter’s Church, and much more! Check the programme for full details and information.
Over the closing weekend, Saturday starts with a bell ringers coffee morning and demonstration in the church. You can even have a go at ringing the bells, supervised by locally recognised bellringing teachers! In the evening there is a choice of HADIT’s murder mystery evening with supper in Loxley Hall at 7.30pm or a disco at 8pm in The Old Hall.
Hope Wakes Week ends on Sunday 5th July with a car boot sale in the morning, and finally a duck race on the River Noe in the afternoon, so there’s plenty for everyone.
All proceeds from the week are going towards the project to renew the children’s playground on Hope Sports Field. So, start making your scarecrows and get your fancy dress box out and go along and join in the fun!
If you would like a pitch for a stall on the field, wish to take part or help in any event, please contact David Garwes on 07759 852474 or email the Hope Sports Club Secretary at secretary@hopesportsclub.co.uk
