Nigel Clayton and Imma Setiadi – piano duet

Matlock Music Society begins its exciting 2025/26 season on Friday 3rd October with a recital given by pianists Nigel Clayton and Imma Setiadi. Bringing classical music to a wider audience in an engaging way is at the heart of their work together and they have also been engaged in a number of cross-arts projects. Their recent performances have included recitals at the Bridgewater Hall, Manchester and St John’s Smith Square, London.

Nigel is a piano professor and Art of Teaching lecturer at the Royal College of Music. Since developing a particular interest in chamber music and accompanying, he has embarked on many major international tours and has also appeared at the Wigmore Hall, the South bank Centre and on the BBC. He is recognised as an outstanding chamber music pianist.

Imma was born in Indonesia where she started her early training. Since then she received her BMus degree in Singapore and her MMus and Doctoral degree at the Royal College of Music (studying with Nigel). Since coming to the UK, she has performed in many prestigious venues as a soloist and chamber musician.

Their programme is entitled “Planets, Games and Dances!”. They will begin with Holst’s own arrangement of The Planets followed by piano duet arrangements of Bizet’s Jeux d’enfants and Ravel’s La Valse. A recent performance of The Planets was praised for its impressive precision and deep feeling, bringing a fresh interpretation of the distinct qualities of each planet.

Do come and join us for what promises to be an exciting evening of live, first-class music-making to start our 2025/26 season.

Future concerts include the wind quintet, Lumas Winds, on 7th November and the welcome return of Piva, the early music group, on 28th November. Full details of the 2025/26 season are given on the society’s website.

The concert is on Friday 3rd October at the Wheeldon Hall, Highfields School, Lumsdale, off the Chesterfield Road, Matlock, DE4 5NA starting at 7.30pm.
