MIDDLETON-BY-YOULGRAVE MARKET AND WELL DRESSINGS SATURDAY 24TH MAY

Come for an afternoon of enjoyment in one of the Peak District’s most picturesque villages!

The 2025 Middleton-by-Youlgrave Market and Well-Dressings open at midday on Saturday 24th May. The event is located at DE45 1LS in the village square. Free car parking is provided off-road near the village hall – directions are signposted. Roadside parking is available on Long Rake for visitors coming from Monyash and Newhaven.

Leaving the car park, as you walk to the square you’ll see the Village Hall on your right – that’s where a delicious selection of well-dressing teas will be available. Just a few yards down will be the gluten-free cakes stall and the chance to buy raffle tickets for village funds – you’ll see some great raffle prizes!

A hundred yards down, you’ll come across the main 2025 Middleton well dressing located at the 1876 tap well. Just across the way you’ll find a selection of children’s well-dressings.

Then into the square where the stalls will be open from midday. You’ll notice at the plants’ trailers a great choice of vegetable plants, flowers, shrubs, hanging baskets and cottage garden perennials – don’t miss these! Just across the way you will find the substantial books stall – with books arranged in easy-to-access boxes, and LPs/CDs (a big country and western selection).

Come and peruse the bric-a-brac and pre-loved/vintage stalls – you never know what you might find! There will also be the Cakes and Bakes stall with locally baked selections.

If you are unfamiliar with this most picturesque historic Peak village, why not explore it by visiting places of interest and a series of open gardens? You’ll need the ‘Explore Middleton’ map and guide. This can be purchased in an open garden or from the information desk in the square. At a glance, you can see the village has a fascinating history, so we’ve put up a series of informative history boards along the trail.

Plenty of fun on hand. The Winster Morris Dancers will be performing at 1.30pm and 2.40pm. Try your luck with the tombola. In the playground you can show your skills at skittles. Children can follow the Middleton Wildlife Hunt around the village (recording sheets available from the information point in the square)!

Snacks will be available: buy a burger from the barbecue by the playground entrance. You can treat yourself to a great tea in the Village Hall tearoom near the car park (the tearoom is also open on Sunday 25th May 10am-4pm).

St Michael and All Angels’ church is open to visitors – come in to admire the flowers and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere and classical music (this year the church garden is being developed as a nature garden for residents and visitors to enjoy all year). The church is also open on Sunday. The Blessing of the Well is at 6.30pm in the square, followed by Evensong).

Payments: cash/ card can be made at the card payment and raffle point in the square.

Public toilets are available opposite the church.
