Spring has arrived in a spectacular way this year in the Dales; snowdrops have given way to early daffodils and narcissi, then violets, primroses and cowslips in field corners and white blossom on the Blackthorn hedges.
Here at the Methodist Church we have marked the washing of feet and hands on Maundy Thursday, mourned on Good Friday and celebrated Christ’s resurrection on Easter Sunday with an extensive interactive display based on the Stations of the Cross. This “Journey to Jerusalem” was followed by large numbers of members, friends and visitors over the Easter period.
Members of the church had a stall on the Monday Market and gave out large numbers of Easter Eggs to delighted shoppers.
Now we await the white May blossom trailing down the hedgerows and red hawthorn blossom by the River Wye. Our weekly events in Bakewell Methodist Church resume as usual with Monday morning coffee and scones, Wednesday morning prayer group and Thursday morning Mothers and Toddlers. Open Door/warm space welcomes people on Thursday afternoons and the Church acts as a hub for many other organisations and community groups using our warm and welcoming premises.
Dates for your diary-two special events very soon are a welcome to our new Minister, Rev. Tim Morris who starts in September. We are also starting a Prayer Tree in the foyer of the Church from mid-May so that you can ask for prayers for people in trouble and remember anyone that you have lost. It will be accessible initially on Monday mornings.
