WIRKSWORTH COMMUNITY CHOIR – COME AND SING DAY

Following the successes of previous “Come and Sing” workshop events hosted by Wirksworth Community Choir, they are once again organising one of these very enjoyable days for anyone who would like to spend a day learning and singing a large scale work – not often performed locally, owing to the scale of the piece.

This year’s choice is Brahms – German Requiem, a beautiful work and Brahms’ largest ensemble work. It will be sung in English not German. The full work with Chorus and Soprano and Baritone Soloists will be performed to an audience in the late afternoon on the day, for which tickets cost £5 on the door.

The first performance of the complete Requiem premiered in Leipzig in 1868 – it was a huge success and has been performed by the great choirs of the world since. It was part of the BBC Proms season in 2022 sung by the National Youth Choir to great acclaim.

The ‘Come and Sing’ singers will be led throughout the workshop, by well known local conductor Adam Green and the accompanist for not only the workshop but the performance also, will be Tim Capes.

Saturday 21st March is the date and the workshop begins at 10am (with registration from 9.30am). The venue is St. Mary’s Church, Wirksworth. Parking is available close by. The cost is £20 (£10 for students) and includes the loan of the full Novello score and refreshments.

Wirksworth has several cafes, pubs and restaurants where lunch can be bought but the hall next to the church will be open for anyone wishing to bring their own lunch.

All in all this promises to be a wonderful day of learning, rehearsal and performance of this remarkable piece of music.

Booking forms with full details of the day are available via the website and at a variety of venues around Wirksworth or from the above contact.

So, “Come and Sing” – We look forward to seeing you on the 21st March.

In addition to the Choral Day, you are warmly invited to come to the weekly choir rehearsals as we learn this wonderful music.

These rehearsals will take place at 7.45pm at Wirksworth Junior School, Wash Green, DE4 4FD (free parking on site) on March 4th , 11th and 18th

The scores will be available. We would ask for £4.50 per session to help with choir expenses.
