For classical music lovers in the Bakewell area, the Town Hall Chamber Series for 2026 offers a wonderful opportunity to hear some outstanding concerts performed by members of the Hallé, Manchester Camerata, and top free-lancers working all around the UK.
The series opens on 1st March at 3pm with ‘French Connections’ - a wonderful programme of music for flute, viola and harp. This exotic combination of instruments lends itself to the rich and impressionistic sonorities of much-loved composers such as Ravel and Debussy, as well as lesser-known works by Ibert and the French romantic composer Théodore Dubois, whose Terzettino was the first work to be written for this colourful combination of instruments.
We welcome back Hallé harpist Marie Leenhardt, with her colleagues Sarah Bennett (flute) and Chris Emerson (viola/violin). Multi-talented Chris has also composed a piece specially to celebrate the opening concert of the series. His Trio Fantasy for flute, viola and harp will receive a world premiere performance in Bakewell.
To follow on 18th April at 7pm we bring you ‘Folk and Fantasy’ – a programme of British and Czech music for oboe and strings.
‘Dreams and Farewells’ will be the closing concert on 31st May at 7pm with a beautiful programme featuring string chamber music by Brahms and Vaughan Williams.
All the musicians performing have commented on how much they love playing in Bakewell. They enjoy the venue, the town and its surroundings, and the very welcoming audience.
Don’t miss this chance to hear high quality professional chamber music, on your doorstep.
