On Thursday 4th December Christmas really begins in beautiful Wirksworth, with the town Christmas tree lights being turned on. As usual this will follow the Peace Ceremony which will take place at 5.30pm on Memorial Hall Gardens. Residents will then gather at the Market Place at 5.55pm and the tree lights will be turned on by the Mayor, followed by the singing of a family-friendly selection of carols. This year the fantastic Raise Your Voices Choir will accompany the singing crowd and we hopefully another jolly special guest too!
On the following Saturday 6th December and Sunday 7th the Wirksworth Christmas Markets will take place including all the best produce and gifts in Derbyshire plus alpacas and plenty of Christmas cheer! All this along with the infamous annual Panto at Wirksworth Town Hall and Santa Special train rides at the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway (get your tickets for both before they’re sold out).
Wirksworth Town Council is pleased to support the festive period in the town again this year by supplying the Christmas tree and providing the businesses with Christmas lights, all in all it should be a very merry Christmas in the Gem of the Peak.
