HARTINGTON AND DISTRICT FIRST RESPONDERS CHARITY WALK

In May, I will be walking 120 kilometres of the Camino de Santiago, more precisely The Camino Ingles (The English Way) from Ferrol to the shrine of Santiago de Compostela in Northern Spain. The Camino Ingles has its roots in medieval times, when pilgrims from across Northern Europe journeyed on foot to the tomb of Saint James, one of the twelve apostles, whose remains are said to be buried there. It is something I have wanted to do for as long as I can remember so this is the year!
All the different Ways on the Camino are more than just long walks; they are challenges, both physically and mentally; they are chances to experience something deeply meaningful and profound; to meet other ‘pilgrims’ and make new friends. Whilst I’m incredibly excited I know it won’t be a walk in the park. There will be long days, sore feet, aching limbs, and plenty of early starts. I will be carrying everything I need, absolutely no luxuries allowed! My son Adam is accompanying me so I can’t get lost or back out!
Having decided to embark on this challenge, I thought I would raise money for charity and I have chosen Hartington and District First Responders. My very dear and beautiful friend Sarah Farmer tragically died in August last year. This charity was chosen by her husband Andy and her family for donations in her memory.
Every step I take will help support a cause that can make a real impact and change lives. All responders are volunteers who attend 999/111 calls in their own community, often arriving at the scene of an emergency before an ambulance. Knowing I am walking for something other than ‘a tick on my Life List’ will keep me going when the ascents of the Galician hills get tough. May is the wettest month in Gallicia so my Peak District training will have served me well this year!
Any sponsorship, no matter how small, would mean a great deal. Your support will motivate me along the way and help turn this personal goal into something that has a positive impact on others. Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving. In addition if you are a UK taxpayer and are willing you can boost your donation by 25p for every £1 you can donate by ticking the Gift Aid box.Thank you for taking the time to read this, for any donation you make and for cheering me on as I walk my Camino.
