This year the Middleton-by-Youlgrave Market will be held on Saturday 23rd May, opening at midday and closing at 4pm.
Free field car parking is provided – DE45 1LS. Directions are signposted. Roadside parking is available on Long Rake for visitors coming from Newhaven and Monyash.
This year is the 80th anniversary of the Ferguson ‘Little Grey Fergie’ tractor! There’s to be a special display of locally owned vintage tractors to mark this celebration of a very important part of the story of Peak District farming!
Next to the tractor display is the well-dressing displayed at the 1876 tap well. The well-dressing will be on display until Saturday 30th May. The Blessing of the Well will be at 6.30pm on Sunday 24th May in the Square, followed by Evensong in St Michael and All Angels’ Church.
For children there is the hunt to find where Little Grey Fergie’s friends are hiding! They need the hunt sheet from the information point in the Square.
Another special Market feature is the very popular plants stall. The plants are locally grown, offering a very wide selection: Annuals, perennials, herbs, vegetables, hanging baskets and floral gifts.
Then there are the regular stalls to browse: A delicious selection of locally baked cakes and bakes; the big books and records stall; real vintage and pre-loved bargains; and who knows what on the bric-a-brac stall?
We are delighted to welcome back the Winster Morris Dancers whose colourful performances are always greatly enjoyed. Also you can try your hand at the tombola and skittles!
Middleton is one of the most picturesque villages in the Peak District. Built in the early 19th century, it offers a fascinating scenic, architectural and historical trail. You’ll need to pick up the ‘Explore Middleton’ map at the Information point to find your way around the trail and open gardens.
St Michael and All Angels’ Church will be open, so call in to see the flowers, listen to the music and visit the wildlife garden around the church.
Middleton Market is very well known for the excellence of its teas, sandwiches and cakes available in the village hall just down from the field car park. The Tea Room is also open on Sunday 24th May between 10-4pm. Burgers can be bought in the Square.
Don’t miss the chance of winning a prize in the Middleton raffle grand prize draw! Raffle tickets can be bought at the Information point. Public toilets are available opposite the church.
Payments: Cash or by card – card payment point in the Square and at the tea room in the village hall.
So plenty to enjoy – you’ll be made very welcome in this lovely little village!
