We were delighted to welcome Prof Roger Clough to our evening meeting on 29th October at The Rutland Arms, Bakewell for a very stimulating presentation and discussion based on his book Oldenland – how to grow old gracefully, understand others and enjoy your later years! Roger is a retired academic from Lancaster University who has written numerous books on ageing and social care – and widely spoken publicly – and this year on radio 4 and at the annual Buxton Festival at the Opera House.

Looking ahead

November saw the launch of the next round of the Community Chest Grant Scheme which runs to 5th December. We have the next Repair Café at the Methodist Church on the 29th which includes a darning workshop!

Santa will be joining some of the Rotary Christmas collections at the Bakewell ALDI store, raising funds for the Community Grant Scheme on Saturday 13th, Monday 15th, Saturday 20th and Monday 22nd December.

We will be hosting our annual community tea party for seniors’ at the Methodist Hall on Tuesday the 9th.
