Just try to imagine a place with no safe water supply and / or open sewage in the street. It could be a muddy desert water hole or there might be too much water around but it is all contaminated. This week it could be Sudan, Jamaica or Gaza. There are too many places like that in the world today. Which is why the Fishpond Choir teamed up with the Aquabox charity in Wirksworth to put on a concert in this year’s Wirksworth Festival. It was a great success with our biggest local audience ever and produced a thrilling donation to Aquabox of over £1800. A rough calculation turns our donation into funding 51 Aquabox filters producing about 25 million litres of drinkable water after removing all contamination from the dirty water which the locals are forced to use. Supporters of both charities were so pleased with the result that they have agreed to repeat the event at next year’s festival. Look out for it in next year’s Festival programme.

The next concert for the Fishpond Choir is on Thursday 11th December at the Cavendish Hall, Chatsworth. This is becoming a regular Christmas event and this year people attending will be able to book a pre-concert drink or meal at the Cavendish Club. Funds raised will support the choir next year to visit Onzain, near Tours in France to take part in a joint French, German and British choral concert organised by the local Twinning groups.
