A DECADE OF COMFORT, CARE AND COMPASSION IN THE PLACE THAT MATTERS MOST

Blythe House Hospice is proudly marking the 10th anniversary of its Hospice at Home service – a decade of delivering compassionate, specialist care to people in the comfort of their own homes across North Derbyshire.

Launched on 11th April 2016, the service was created thanks to a generous gift left to Blythe House in a will, with a vision to transform end of life care within the local community. Ten years on, that vision has become a reality.

Over the past decade, Hospice at Home has provided more than 96,300 hours of care; delivered 26,608 visits to people affected by life-limiting illness; and supported thousands of patients and their families in 916 postcode areas across the High Peak, Hope Valley, Derbyshire Dales and North East Derbyshire.

The Hospice at Home service runs seven days per week, 365 days a year, and is open to patients who are assessed to be within the last 12 months of their life, and who wish to be cared for in the comfort of their own surroundings, with loved ones by their side.

Overnight sits allow carers the chance to have a much-needed good night’s sleep, while daytime visits provide valuable respite – whether that’s time to run errands, attend appointments, or simply take a moment to rest.

Shane O’Reilly, Chief Executive Officer at Blythe House Hospice, said, “For ten years, our Hospice at Home service has provided compassionate, dignified care to people in the comfort and familiarity of their own homes.

“This milestone is not only a celebration of the service itself, but of the thousands of patients and families we have had the privilege to support, and the incredible dedication of our staff.

“Only 28% of the hospice’s running costs come from the NHS, the rest is raised through the valuable support of our local community. We are so grateful to everyone who donates their time, money and skills to the hospice, ensuring we can continue to be there for those who need us most.”
