MATLOCK MUSIC SOCIETY PRESENTS LIVE MUSIC IN THE DALES

Charlotte Spruit and Angus Webster

– violin and piano

Matlock Music Society continues its successful 2025/26 season with a recital on 6th February to be given by the exciting Dutch violinist Charlotte Spruit, accompanied by pianist Angus Webster. Charlotte started her violin studies aged 4, continuing her studies at the Guildhall School of Music and at the Royal Academy of Music with Rachel Podger. She is a soloist and chamber musician and has received international praise and awards for her passionate and energetic performances. Gramophone described her as “an artist whose technique and musicality are matched by a broader artistic imagination”. She has been selected as one of Classic FM’s Rising Stars. Angus has been praised for his inspiring musicianship, and enjoys a growing international career as conductor and pianist. Recently, he has performed in Berlin and Amsterdam with Charlotte and makes his New York debut at the Lincoln Center.

Their programme is based on songs and poems about which they will tell the audience during the performance. It will include Brahms’s Nachklang No4, Debussy’s Sonata for violin and piano, Ades’s Märchentänze for violin and piano, Beamish’s Wild Swans for violin and piano, Brahms’s Sonata for violin and piano Op. 78 and several English folk melodies.

Future concerts in the 2025/26 season include members of the Sheffield Music Academy on 27th February and the return visit of the Wihan Quartet of Prague on 20th March. Details of the full season are given on the society’s website.

The concert is on Friday 6th February at the Wheeldon Hall, Highfields School, Lumsdale, off the Chesterfield Road, Matlock, DE4 5NA starting at 7.30pm. Single concert tickets costing £15 will be available at the door. Under 18s are free and students and registered job-seekers pay half-price. All seats are unreserved.
