HATHERSAGE HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY AGM AND TALK

Two AGMs in one night sounds like tough going, unless, of course, you are a member of Hathersage Horticultural Society!
The first AGM was despatched with customary efficiency by President, Jenni Wedgwood who outlined another packed year, thanked retiring vice president and committee member, Wendy Ellicock for her considerable contribution and welcomed Mary Bagley to the post. Committee members were elected, re-elected and thanked. Finances, whilst still healthy, were found to be in slight decline along with a post Covid membership slump, but an exciting programme of events has been planned for 2026, including a coach trip to Harlow Carr on 18th June as well as the ever-popular Plant Swap on 23rd May and Open Gardens on 12th July.
The business concluded and refreshments served, it was on to the second AGM – The RHS Award of Garden Merit (AGM – get it?) described, illustrated and explained with great enthusiasm and humour by Don Witton.
Don’s delightful romp through the world of plant pedigree brightened a very stormy evening and guaranteed that everyone present will be looking for that little AGM cup insignia on the label of anything they buy from the garden centre in future.
The next event is a Hathersage Garden Safari on 2nd May for members only so if you want to come you better join quick. Astonishing value at just £5 for the whole year – the refreshments alone are worth the money! Details from: hathhortsoc@gmail.com
