A trip into Matlock town and the Christmas festive displays are starting to add cheer to the mundane job of basic shopping. Non more so than the lovely painted windows around the town. One particular show is eye catching and is a real compliment to Matlock. It is compiled of 12 snowy,

recognizable scenes of Victorian Matlock.

The artist responsible is Frances Thomas who lives in the town and although making her career in hospitality has always had a love of art. In her own words, “Always loved doodling” and attributes her arty flair to her mother; saying she doesn’t truly know where her drawing ability comes from. Apparently she has had no formal instruction in the art. She is a self taught, natural artist.

Over time Frances introduced that creative flair into her hospitality work, which she truly loves – when managing pubs in London and Wales, where attractive chalk boards and menu’s were needed. She has brought all her ideas with her to Matlock and also looking to further her knowledge in illustration work.

If this latest window painting display is an example – something which took around 20 hours to complete, then best wishes for her future are in order.
